New Species of Spitting Cobra Discovered
Thursday, July 26th, 2007We are celebrating the publication of a paper by Wolfgang Wuster & Donald Broadley (see http://www.mapress.com/zootaxa/2007f/zt01532p068.pdf) describing a new species of giant spitting cobra from eastern and north-eastern Africa. This cobra is common in our Watamu area and we are very proud that it has been named after James, who was alive when Wolfgang was collecting data here, and long enough afterwards to be told the proposed name of Naja ashei. These snakes are larger than life and so was James.”
